"A coaster in every home" was a mission statement I jokingly came up with in 2018 when my wife and I launched Kevin Lang Fine Art. At the time, handmade coasters depicting various paintings of mine were popular at craft shows and small events. The journey toward a second career in art was circuitous, and, you might say, unlikely.
As a kid I enjoyed drawing and tried my hand at a number of art related things mostly revolving around comic book illustrating and inking. A twenty-two year stint in the Air Force and a family that grew to eight of us put art inclinations on the back burner for decades.
Then, in 2013, a friend saw my cartoon doodlings and was insistent that he could teach me to paint. Half-heartedly I agreed, telling him I had never painted before. He actually made painting understandable and enjoyable. After only eight weeks of painting instruction, he unexpectedly moved away and I was on my own. I've painted nearly every day since then and with the Lord's help my painting has improved and it has turned into that second career I could only dream about.
In the fall of 2018, I was approached by a local coffee house to consider teaching an art class. “Moscato and Masterpieces” was the event name and twenty people came to that first painting class. I was nervous and unsure that I could teach anyone to paint. Amazingly, the evening was a success and I was asked over and over again to continue painting classes in multiple venues. Let’s Paint Events was born!
So, my art rhythm has stabilized with days filled with commission painting and evenings mixed with painting classes and meeting new friends!
I am available for commissioned artwork painting events and can be contacted on mywebsite www.kevinlangfineart.com or kevinlangfineart@gmail.com.
